Backup Tumblr Blogs – 2017

soarcodes:

There are a lot of methods here. I’ve used the wordpress method but with that you get EVERYTHING with not much control. The one that gives me the most control (and imo the best) is tumblr-utils by bbolli on github. It can be daunting for those who aren’t familiar with command line, however. They do have a Windows guide (tumblr_backup_for_beginners) which walks you through step by step on setting it up and getting it started.

Below is my version of the guide with some helpful tips not mentioned, under read more for length.

One more reblog. Because it breaks down the steps a little easier.

For those panicking about losing everything…

plumbobcookies:

So the official tumblr export option was showing no sign of progress, and my blog wouldn’t import to wordpress, so I did a bit of research and found my own more complicated faster way of doing things.

I downloaded all of my images with TumblThree, and all of my blog posts as an .xml using this: https://tumblr2wordpress.benapps.net/. TumblThree downloads the images, videos, text posts, and everything else except the image captions, so for that I downloaded the .xml.

This way I have all of my images and posts backed up. I’m currently importing the .xml file into wordpress, and I have no idea if I’ll have to add the images back in manually. I think the .xml file only links to the images on tumblr, so I backed them up using TumblThree just in case.

It’s definitely easier to just export to wordpress, but since that wasn’t working for me I had to find another way. Despite the fact that I don’t think my blog will get taken down, I desperately needed the peace of mind of having everything backed up just in case. I’m putting this method out there for anyone else feeling the same way.

EDIT: Yes the .xml file only links to the images on tumblr, so if my blog gets taken down, the images get taken down too.

@desiree-uk this is one solution and I’ve seen another post floating around. If I find it I’ll reblog that too.

Deniisu from deniisu-sims here. Due to the even bigger mess Tumblr is becoming, maybe it’s time to migrate to Dreamwidth or send a masterlist of mirror sites to Sssvitlans? I think many content creators, especially skinblenders, will feel the effects of the purge, especially since even stuff not including people like architectural-sims posts got flagged.

-going to answer this publicly. Hope you don’t mind.

Hey there! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the @staff‘s post and what that means for Simblr on Tumblr as a whole. I’m literally staring at WordPress and wondering how to WP. lol And honestly trying to figure out how to reply.

I’ve Simmed since Sims was a thing but never posted Sims stuff or shared creations till Tumblr. I’ve made some amazing friends on here that I will miss dearly if I’m not able to connect with them.

For now I’m not going anywhere. I will update everyone if I put my content somewhere else. I don’t post much of anything or visit that often but I’m at Pixelated Puddings, Instagram (personal art and Coco), and Discord –  Mspoodle #2838 if for some reason I can’t be reached here.

So for now…It Is What It Is…We will adapt and/or move on to a place that is accepting of every part of the Simming community.

Oh FFSakes!!!

Found out that the shelf is the problem. I used it over the door and it caused routing issues. And I used it here above the stove. Switched it out to another one and it’s fine now. I’ll have to make a mental note not to use that shelf. Hate it because I like that shelf. It must have been made with a weird base item or has the wrong flags. Blah!

You did an awesome job on filling this world… It looks so realistic and creative.

Awww’s thank you! Can’t take credit for all of it. Potato’s work is the real showcase. I just did filler stuff here and there. There’s more to be done, but I’m going to play with it as is for now.

You have ghosts though, did you place them in game?

I do have ghost! I sent my sim to all the cemeteries that had interesting dead sims and sorta did some grave robbing. Then I placed them in the cemetery. As far as I know, it hasn’t been a problem with the game. Did the same with Agnes Crumplebottom. I put Erik Darling’s urn in her inventory (after I edited him in CAS), saved the household and then placed him on the fireplace mantel. Have no idea if that’s the proper way to do it. I’ve heard about stuff being corrupted but as far as I can tell, everything is fine.
